If you’re dreaming up the ultimate bucket list adventure, let us throw one your way: fishing in Key West. Seriously, there’s nothing quite like it. Whether you’re a die-hard angler or just looking for a good time on the water, this little island at the end of the road has something for everyone.
The Fishing Down Here is Next Level
Key West is surrounded by some of the best fishing grounds in the world. You’ve got the flats, the reef, the wrecks, and deep blue offshore waters—all packed with fish. We’re talking tarpon, permit, bonefish, mahi, tuna, snapper, grouper, sailfish… the list goes on. Every day is a new shot at something awesome.
And here’s the kicker—unlike a lot of spots in Florida, you don’t have to run for hours to get to deep water. From Key West, it only takes about 40 minutes (on our boat) to hit 200+ feet of water. That means more fishing and less riding, which is exactly how we like it.
No Off-Season Vibes
The beauty of fishing in Key West? It’s good all year long. There’s always something biting. Winter, spring, summer, or fall—just pick a day, hop on a boat, and go bend some rods.
It’s More Than Just Fishing
Fishing in Key West is about way more than just dropping a line. On the way out, you’re cruising past lobster boats, crab fishermen, spongers, and local kids out on skiffs spearfishing just for fun. It’s a glimpse into real island life—laid-back, salty, and full of character.
Add in the turquoise water, the warm breeze, and that easygoing Keys vibe, and it feels like you’re in another country. Honestly, this is about as close to a tropical island as you can get without leaving the U.S.
The Laid-Back Island Life
After a day on the water, Key West is the perfect place to kick back. The island’s packed with character—from old conch houses turned into cozy restaurants to weathered bars where the wood still smells like salt and stories. A lot of these spots have been around for decades, and stepping inside feels like joining the local scene. You might find yourself sitting next to a commercial fisherman or a captain winding down after their last trip, all with cold drinks in hand.
The food’s unreal—fresh seafood straight off the boat, Cuban flavors, island comfort food—and there’s always live music playing somewhere nearby. It’s laid-back, unpretentious, and full of charm. And just when you think it can’t get any better, the sky lights up with one of those legendary Key West sunsets. It’s the kind of evening that makes you never want to leave.
Let’s Cross This One Off Your List
If fishing Key West isn’t on your bucket list yet, go ahead and add it. And if you’re ready to make it happen, we’d love to take you out and show you why it’s one of the best fishing spots on the planet.

A Couple Charters on Our Bucket List
While we’re all about Key West, there are a few other Florida fishing outfits we’ve got on our own bucket list.
First up is Just Right Fishing Charters with Captain Brad over in the Pompano Beach/Fort Lauderdale area. He’s known for putting folks on the fish and running a solid operation with a great local reputation.
Another one we’re watching is Salt Cracker Charters out of Clearwater Beach. These guys run a fleet of boats and are dialed in to both inshore and offshore action. If you’re ever on the west coast of Florida, they’re worth checking out.
